Spray Foam Insulation

Check this out! We have opted to go with a Spray Foam insulation. It is made out of Icynene, which is sprayed on and then it expands and fills cracks and crevices. Even though it costs quite a bit more than traditional pink fiberglass insulation, it keeps your home air tight. No dust, so we hope it helps Corinne's asthma. It literally seals your house from the outside. The A/C unit has a special duct system to the outside, instead of a regular one that vents into the attic. The other neat thing is that the attic temperature will only be about a 4 degree difference than the temperature of the house. After it is sprayed on, they take these big blades and scrape away the excess. The texture of it reminds me of the Temperpedic mattresses, where on the commercial they leave their handprint on the bed, that is how this foam is. It is really soft.
We have had rain for days on end, so not much has happened on the outside of the house. They tried to deliver the shingles yesterday and said that it was too wet and muddy to pull the truck in. We are hoping to start drywall on Monday!
Day 56 -

A little bit of everything...

Well, they didn't finish all the electrical wiring today, so they will have to finish tomorrow. Moving our inspection to Monday or Tuesday.
Day 51 -
They finished staining the side porch. There will be rock around the bottom portion of the cedar posts.

They got the fiberglass layer done in the showers.

Look at all these wires in the ceiling. You never think about them being there when you can't see them after it is sheetrocked.

They have all the scaffolding up on the front of the house to start the stucco in the am!

Brandon has the front door secured like Fort Knox. Nobody gets to touch the front door. You must go around! :)

The front door crossed the border on Monday with Lyla, it's designer. I got to meet her and today, the door was unveiled and hung! Oh, WOW! I know I am biased, but I am breathless!
Day 50 -
Here she is!




Here is some of the electrical "mess" that is taking place. They will finish all the wiring tomorrow.

We will have showers! he, he! This is in the master shower. They float this concrete looking stuff and then come in tomorrow and put down a fiberglass compound to make it waterproof.

Plumbing!

I haven't posted in a while because there hasn't been too much to show....just lots of little things that do a big job! We are now plumbed. Can't wait to start laundry. Yeah, right! All the A/C ducting is done, the plumbing and valves for showers is done. The electrician started yesterday and we met with him to go over all the locations for switches and outlets. Whew! That was a job, but glad we are doing it now instead of after it is too late.

Things are still moving steady at the house. Today the HVAC crew was there putting in all the duct work. They are amazing...talk about a giant puzzle that has to fit perfectly and not have any leaks. They can squeeze that duct work into any little space, or so it seems! I'm sure it's much more complicated than that!
Day 43 -
Here is the back of the house now. They have spent the last few days moving that dirt up to the house so that we don't have a 6 foot drop or 6 feet of cement showing. They still have more dirt to bring in to make it look nice.

The plumber is going to start tomorrow and the electrician will start Monday! Check back soon!

Claire Bear turns 2!!!

Our baby is not a baby anymore! We spent the weekend in Houston and then had a little party at Chuck E. Cheese. Claire was sooooo tired! But we had fun anyway. The Miller's were there, as well as Mimi and Pap Pap. Here are a few pictures from our party. (Claire was not into smiling for the camera!)

Who knew one could be so excited about windows?

The crews have been busy! They installed the cedar posts and cedar planks for the ceiling of the porch, as well as the cedar corbels. They looked good, until the painter got carried away and painted them instead of staining them! It's okay, they are getting replaced! Today the windows and some of the exterior doors were installed. Now we just wait for our inspections on Monday and then they can begin shingling the roof! The stucco is supposed to start soon too!
